Restoration

Warning: restorations are not always worthwhile. Often buying a new firearm of the same model is cheaper than restoring an old damaged one. It is worthwhile if a particular firearm has sentimental or historical value.

This is a very common CIL 401 shotgun but with sentimental value. It was left over the winter in an unheated garage and was damaged by humidity and condensation.

Before

After

  • The firearm was fully disassembled and passed through a rust conversion process to recover as much of the original blue as possible.
  • The stock and forearms were chemically stripped and then treated with linseed oil
  • No rebluing was done, but it is an option.
  • Adjustable combs, scope or red dot installation, adjustable or different buttplates are all available as options.
  • Entire gun underwent a wax coating and buffing to ensure protection from the elements
