IDF 10/22 sniper clone with a fake suppressor

This project attempts to create a clone of the IDF 10/22 "less lethal" sniper.

Besides not having blueprints available, a large challenge to work around was that suppressors are not legal for individuals to possess in Canada. One has to either go with a completely fake suppressor or a so called Forward Blast Deflector - these are legally sold as they are simply redirecting the sound forward - they have no baffles inside and have holes in the front.

This firearm is Non-restricted in Canada at the time of writing.

We would have no problems setting this up with a real suppressor for our international customers for whom suppressors are legal to possess or for business customers in Canada who have a license for prohibited devices.

But let's start with the inspiration for this project. This video explains the history and their implementation quite well.

After

  • Stock was cut back to accommodate the fake suppressor and the action was bedded at the same time.
  • The original varnish was stripped from the stock and thoroughly infused the wood with linseed oil and then a wax coating was applied. The original wood used on these stocks is quite good but because of the varnish it is not shown to the best advantage.
  • An adjustable comb could be installed as an option for better cheek weld if shooting with a scope.
  • A fake suppressor was profiled from aluminum, knurling added.
  • The fake suppressor pipe has a step inside it corresponding to where the barrel ends. The barrel is threaded and the fake suppressor pipe is used to hold it under tension. This increases rigidity of the whole setup. This can be done for any length of barrel with both a fake suppressor and with a real one.
  • The scope rail could be bedded as an option
  • Cerakote was applied on the action, barrel, buttplate and the fake suppressor.
